Thanks to modern adhesive techniques, only the decayed tissue is removed, with maximum respect for the remaining healthy tissue.
Modern materials work optimally when the teeth are isolated with a rubber dam, which is essential when removing old amalgam fillings to prevent the patient from ingesting mercury.
